DECEMBER 20 ~ He Came to Give Comfort

By Chris Baxter

John 14:18

I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.

Matthew 5:4

Jesus said, “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.”

Psalm 23:4

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for You are with me. Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

Psalm 34:18-19

The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous; but the Lord delivers him out of them all.

Isaiah 61:1-3

The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to bring good new to the afflicted; He has sent me to bind up the broken- hearted... to comfort all who mourn, to grant those who mourn in Zion, giv- ing them a garland instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a spirit of fainting. So they will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, the He may be glorified.

My Child,
I came to give you comfort. Your afflictions will not go unnoticed by Me. I too was afflicted, so I understand. Be convinced that I am present with you in your trial, and I will hold your hand each step of the way until you reach the other side. In the meantime, hear me whisper My words of encouragement and peace; let My words of truth bind up your broken heart.

Immanuel

You can't please God without this...

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Dear Lord,

Help us to realize that more than anything else (more than our money, more than our good works, more than our attempts at flawless living), you desire faith. Faith IN YOU, then as a result, our actions will flow as a sincere offering. May we believe in all of who you are so that we can walk in your ways, one dependent step at a time. In Jesus' Name, Amen.
