A Passage and A Prayer... Isaiah 42:5-7

By Chris Baxter

Thus says God the Lord, who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread out the earth and its offspring, Who gives breath to the people on it, and spirit to those who walk in it, "I am the Lord, I have called you in righteousness, I will also hold you by the hand and watch over you. And I will appoint you as a covenant to the people, as a light to the nations. To open the eyes of the blind, to bring out prisoners from the dungeon, and those who dwell in darkness from prison.

Isaiah 42: 5-7

Dear Creator of Heaven and Earth,
You are mighty in strength; You are awesome in power. You give each of us breath and life. Thank You for the promise of Your Spirit given to those who believe in You. I pray that my children would worship You both as the God of majesty, and at the same time, the God of MERCY. Help them to remember that You, O God, are holding their hand. Cause their hearts to humbly receive their appointed calling of sharing the gospel. Give them a compassionate desire to save the lost through the love of Jesus Christ.

Daily Prayer

Same mission, different time

(Jesus said to Saul), "Now get up and stand on your feet. I have appeared to you to appoint you as a servant and as a witness of what you have seen of me and what I will show you. I will rescue you from your own people and from the Gentiles. I am sending you to them to open their eyes and turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, so that they may receive forgiveness of sins and a place among those who are sanctified by faith in me."  Acts 26:16-18

Dear Lord,

Convict us to "get up and stand on our feet" for the sake of your name. Our mission is the same as Paul's, just in a different day: "to turn (those who are lost) from darkness to light." Give us a bold desire to walk forward with your good news. Amen.
